Please watch my latest video about how to do direct Moxa (moxibustion).
Moxibustion - Moxa
Moxibustion involves burning the herb 'Mugwort' (Artemisia Vulgaris) to create heat on acupuncture points and channels throughout the body. Moxibustion is normally used as a complementary treatment to acupuncture. Classical Chinese medicine texts, Ling Shu and Guan Neng states that moxa is as effective as acupuncture but works more on tonifying the blood and yin.
When moxa is burnt it emits visible light and infrared (IR) radiation. The moxa’s thermal properties rebalance the nerve-endocrine-immune network and circulatory system, which helps to prevent and cure disease often by stimulating the production of Anti-inflamatory Cytokines and consequently WBC (White Blood Cells) count .
Mugwort has more than 60 known medicinal properties.
Moxa is a strong antioxidant and also has as antiviral and antifungal properties. Moxibustion is often used to address infertility and to remedy breech baby syndrome. The modern clinical practice has shown that even scarring moxibustion (more popular in East for obvious reason) can cure certain chronic refractory diseases.

Cupping
Cupping is a therapy in which a cup is applied to the different body, usually the back. The cup pulls the skin and muscles upwards creating a sensation similar to deep tissue massage. Cupping is used for energising organ systems; relaxing muscle tension and detoxing. Cupping is widely used by athletes due to its ability to support the regeneration and recovery after intense training.

Guasha
Guasha is a Chinese term which literally means 'scraping'. In the traditional method, a comb-like tool is rubbed with long gentle strokes over the oiled skin. This stimulates cell regeneration and the flow of oxygenated blood to the skin surface which enhances the body’s natural detoxification process.
Guasha is often used to remove pathogens and scar tissue, to relieve colds, muscle tension, joint pain, tendon strain and reduce inflammation. After a guasha treatment, the skin is red due to the micro-abrasion which stimulates the body's immune reaction. The treatment has no known side-effects.
